Fire breaks out at Kaesong Industrial Complex near inter-Korean border: Seoul

Second blaze in as many weeks at an inter-Korean facility lasted for about an hour and was visible from South Korea

A fire broke out Thursday at North Korea’s Kaesong Industrial Complex (KIC) – the once jointly-run inter-Korean facility where South Korean factories and properties are still present – Seoul’s unification ministry announced.

The fire broke out at a factory around 2 p.m. KST and could be seen from the inter-Korean border, the ministry said in a statement.

“It appears that flames were extinguished around an hour after the fire broke out,” the ministry said, promising to share relevant information with the South Korean companies that were involved in the inter-Korean economic project.
