South Korean president-elect not planning to abolish unification ministry

Yoon Suk-yeol’s team says ministry will take more responsibility for inter-Korean exchange and humanitarian aid

South Korean president-elect Yoon Suk-yeol is not entertaining the idea of abolishing the country’s unification ministry, his transition team said Wednesday, responding to speculation that the incoming administration could close the organization dedicated to inter-Korean ties.

Instead, Yoon will seek to restore responsibility for inter-Korean exchange to the unification ministry after this allegedly came under the purview of the presidential office during the Moon administration, according to transition team spokesperson Won Il-hee.
