US appoints first cryptocurrency crime czar as North Korean cybertheft ramps up

Washington on the right track but it’s unlikely able to reclaim stolen crypto from DPRK-linked groups, experts say

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday tapped Eun Young Choi to head its new crypto crime task force, pushing forward Washington’s efforts to grapple with increasingly sophisticated cybercrimes from North Korea and a range of other actors.

Choi will head the DOJ’s National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), which was created last October to strengthen U.S. efforts to tamp down on the illegal use of cryptocurrencies.
