North Korean leader Kim Jong Un convened an outdoor “National Meeting” in freezing temperatures Tuesday to celebrate the 80th birthday of his late father and former leader Kim Jong Il, according to state media.
Hundreds of attendees braved a maximum temperature of 5 F (-15 C) in the northern city of Samjiyon to hear a speech praising Kim Jong Il as a “stepping stone” leader who left a “revolutionary legacy” for Kim Jong Un to carry forward today, the party-run Rodong Sinmun reported Wednesday.
