Rare flight through North Korean airspace comes as cruise missiles soar

Airlines seldom fly over the DPRK due to risks from such missile tests and to avoid sanctions complications

A Russian aircraft crossed North Korean airspace on Tuesday morning, a rare and potentially dangerous overflight that occurred around the same time Pyongyang tested two new cruise missiles.

According to multiple flight tracking platforms, an Ilyushin 76 (IL-76) heavy airlift craft flew over North Korea while en route from Shanghai to Vladivostok in the Russian Far East.
