North Korea fired a single “likely ballistic missile” toward its east coast on Wednesday morning, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced in a press statement the same morning.

The Japanese Ministry of Defense agreed that the DPRK fired one likely ballistic missile and said it flew “around 500 km” (310 miles).

South Korea’s presidential National Security Council (NSC) held an emergency meeting later in the morning and expressed “concern” about the launch, adding that the apparent ballistic missile was a short-range one.
