North Korea comes to a standstill to mark 10 years since death of Kim Jong Il

Kim Jong Un leads large memorial service as state media shows work stoppage to bow to portraits of former leader

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un hosted a large "national memorial service" on Friday to mark 10 years since the death of his father and former leader Kim Jong Il, according to state television, which aired the event in the evening the same day.

Top official Choe Ryong Hae delivered a speech praising the former leader to thousands gathered for the memorial outside the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang.
