North Korea puts ‘rural problem’ on agenda as party meeting extended

Kim Jong Un made speeches during first two days of party plenum, but state media has yet to release full details

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made a speech about rural development on the second day of an ongoing party plenary meeting Tuesday, according to state media.

In a brief report Wednesday, the Rodong Sinmun said Kim delivered a "historic report of important revolutionary significance in developing the socialist countryside" at the plenum. The DPRK leader has made remodeling select rural cities a priority in recent years, ordering the complete rebuilding of Samjiyon in the northern region into a "model mountainous town" and more recently the remote Komdok valley into a "model mining town."
