What to expect on North Korea’s new nuclear missile holiday next week
Pyongyang may conduct meetings, a parade or a missile test to celebrate Rocket Industry Day on Nov. 29
KCTV, Nov. 16, 2021 (calendar); Rodong Sinmun, Nov. 29, 2017 (Hwasong-15 launch); edited by NK News | State TV confirmed the holiday earlier this month by showing the month of November in a 2021 calendar, with "Rocket Industry Day" under Nov. 29
North Korea’s nuclear weapons and defense scientists are set to take center stage next Monday as the country celebrates “Rocket Industry Day” for the first time.
The new holiday falls on the fourth anniversary of the country’s most significant nuclear achievement -- test-launching the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of striking Washington, D.C. -- and it could serve as another chance for Pyongyang to send a message about its weapon development plans after holding a missile exhibition last month.
