North Korea says skyscraper project almost done as past developments languish
Pyongyang apartments for 10,000 residents ‘in final stage,’ state media reports, as year-end deadline nears
KCTV, Nov. 3, 2021 | Exterior work on some buildings appeared nearly complete while scaffolding was still visible on other buildings behind Kim Tok Hun this week at the "10,000 flats" construction project in Pyongyang
North Korean state media claimed Wednesday that the country’s top construction project for 2021 featuring an 80-story skyscraper is on track to meet its December deadline, even as the ruling party has failed to finish some high-profile projects in recent years amid material shortages.
The project has seen an entirely new neighborhood sprout up in southeast Pyongyang since March with the country’s now second-tallest building and apartment buildings for 10,000 residents. Kim Jong Un previously ordered workers to finish construction by the end of the year, or within around nine months.
