Canada has spotted at least 24 ship-to-ship transfers and over a hundred “vessels of interest” potentially violating sanctions against North Korea since mid-October, the country’s Ministry of Defense confirmed on Wednesday.
Canadian naval and air assets — including the HMCS Winnipeg frigate and a CP-140 Aurora reconnaissance aircraft — are currently in the Indo-Pacific as part of the U.N.’s Enforcement Coordination Cell (ECC) to crack down on North Korea’s trade of coal, oil and other sanctioned commodities.
