UNICEF secures another sanctions exemption to send COVID aid to North Korea

The DPRK is still showing no signs of opening up, making the timeline for delivery unclear

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has received another sanctions exemption extension to send humanitarian aid to North Korea aimed at helping the country with COVID-19, according to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) 1718 Sanctions Committee website.

UNICEF has an additional 12 months to provide medical and respiratory equipment including oxygen concentrators, patient ventilators and a flow splitter for oxygen supply, worth some $760,000. The UNSC initially approved the aid in July 2020.
