US, South Korea to work toward ‘diplomacy and dialogue’ with North Korea

But appealing to China will be key to incentivizing DPRK to return to talks, expert says

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and foreign minister Chung Eui-yong on Thursday and stressed “diplomacy and dialogue” with North Korea to achieve the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, according to South Korea’s Blue House and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Security threats from the DPRK in the region have emerged as key points of discussions in Tokyo and Seoul as Sherman visits the two U.S. allies during her ongoing Asia tour.
