US-China coordination on North Korea may be long way off, experts say

“Stalemate” underscores perception gap between China and the U.S. on North Korea issues

The U.S. and China will likely struggle to find alignment on security issues like North Korea, experts indicated Tuesday, as a high-level meeting this week once again highlighted bilateral tensions.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other PRC officials on Monday and discussed a range of issues including North Korea. The meeting came during Sherman’s surprise detour to Tianjin, China as part of a trip that was originally announced as an eight-day tour of Japan, South Korea and Mongolia.
