Sung Kim, the U.S. special representative for North Korea, met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and the country’s unification minister on Tuesday and voiced support for “meaningful” inter-Korean cooperation and engagement, even as Pyongyang warned that U.S. expectations would lead to “disappointment.”
Kim’s meeting with the two came a day after Kim and his South Korean counterpart agreed to end the U.S.-ROK “working group” on North Korea affairs and sanctions. He also said on Monday that he is willing to meet with North Korea anytime and anywhere without “preconditions,” continuing Washington’s outreach to Pyongyang.
