South Korea fails in bid to co-host 2032 Summer Olympics with DPRK

Another setback for inter-Korean reconciliation as Olympics’ executive board clears way for Brisbane to host

A last-ditch effort by South Korea to co-host the 2032 Olympic Games with North Korea appears to have failed, as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially proposed that Brisbane host the Summer Games that year.

The decision, revealed Thursday, comes after newly elected Seoul mayor Oh Se-hoon lobbied the committee in a video conference last week to grant the 2032 Games to Seoul and Pyongyang, despite the fact that the IOC had already designated the Queensland capital city as the “preferred host.”
