The U.S. and DPRK should focus on the Singapore joint statement as a basis for reengagement

Three years ago today, then-U.S. President Donald Trump and DPRK Chairman Kim Jong Un met in an historic summit in Singapore and agreed, in a joint statement, to establish new bilateral relations and work toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Since then, scant progress has been made toward these goals, and Washington and Pyongyang remain at an impasse on how to resolve their key differences.
