North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has a new favorite band, and its members appear to be living a life of luxury and total devotion to the ruling party -- or at least that’s how state media is portraying them this week after their recent and sudden rise to stardom.
Kim’s quasi-presidential office, the State Affairs Commission (SAC), appeared to put the new mixed orchestra and chorus together in early 2020, and it took center stage at the last two military parades in Oct. 2020 and Jan. 2021. The Band of the State Affairs Commission (국무위원회연주단) has now become the new mainstay for top-level events.
