North Korea could still revert its decision to skip the Tokyo Olympics as late as June, the Korea Sport and Olympics Committee told NK News on Tuesday, but the U.S. State Department said the decision was in line with the DPRK's strict measures against COVID-19.
“We are aware of reports that North Korea has decided not to participate in the summer Olympics, which would appear consistent, in fact, with the DPRK’s stringent response to COVID-19,” Ned Price, the State Department spokesperson, said in a press briefing on Tuesday. “We will continue to coordinate closely with the Republic of Korea and with Japan on DPRK issues.”
