U.S. forces added a new layer of defense against North Korean ICBMs on Tuesday after successfully intercepting and destroying an intercontinental ballistic missile-like target.
At about 12:50 a.m. ET on Tuesday, the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the U.S. Navy conducted a test aboard a destroyer equipped with an Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system. The operation — called Flight Test Aegis Weapon System-44 (FTM-44) — ultimately showed that the United States can seek and destroy an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) threat.
