North Korea warns workers about COVID-19, boosts domestic face mask production

State media says workers are being taught about COVID-19 sanitization and factories are upping face mask production

Almost a month after announcing an “80-day battle” to wrap up unfinished state projects and reach broader economic goals, North Korea urged its citizens to stay cautious over COVID-19 as they labor away in workplaces across the country.

On Monday, North Korea’s state-run Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported that factories are taking on extra COVID-19-related measures to potential outbreaks. It also urged everyday workers to “fortify [the] country with iron walls” by improving the country's stock of COVID-19-related items — possibly by manufacturing face masks or other protective gear.
