Recently, floods and typhoons tore through North Korea and severely damaged multiple rural towns. These storms were so bad that the country reconsidered several end-of-year goals — and now, relief work appears to be the country’s headline project.

North Korea is building a “socialist fairyland” of new houses for people impacted by the storms, state media reported on Friday.

The front page of the Sept. 18 Rodong Sinmun showed off photos of residents moving into brand new dwellings in Kangbuk-ri, Kumchon County — a region in North Hwanghae province. Residents even held several celebrations to commemorate the state’s alleged gifts.
