South Korea wins permission to develop new solid-fuel space rocket

Technology will likely be for civilian use, but development could lead to improved military capabilities

Update: South Korean President Moon Jae-in called for continuous efforts to secure the country's "complete missile sovereignty" on Wednesday.

South Korea will now be able to develop a solid-propellant space rocket that could increase the country’s intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, according to new missile guidelines cosigned with the United States.
