U.S. official calls on North Korea to release religious prisoners amid pandemic

Religious Freedom Ambassador Brownback expresses concern for religious minorities in the DPRK's “gulag system”

The State Department’s Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom on Thursday called for the release of religious minorities from prisons worldwide in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among countries with an alleged multitude of religious prisoners, Ambassador Brownback said that “North Korea has a very high number, and we don’t know how many are in their gulag system that they have.”
