News Ahead of China visit, Biegun meeting Japanese officials to discuss North KoreaNewly-announced stop in Beijing for top U.S. envoy comes amid China-Russia push for sanctions relief at the UN
Top U.S. envoy for negotiations with North Korea Stephen Biegun is holding talks with Japanese foreign ministry officials Wednesday ahead of a newly-announced visit to continue discussions in China. Biegun arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday evening following a three-day visit to Seoul, where it appears North Korea ultimately ignored his calls to resume face-to-face talks during his stay in South Korea. He will head to Beijing on December 19 “to meet with PRC officials to discuss the need to maintain international unity on North Korea,” the U.S. State Department announced late Tuesday from Washington.
