South Korea yesterday proposed sending a joint inspection team of officials and businesspeople to North Korea’s Mount Kumgang region, the country’s Ministry of Unification (MOU) said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the MOU said the proposal had been sent to North Korea’s Asia Pacific Peace Committee via the two Koreas’ joint liaison office in Kaesong on Tuesday morning.

The note, the unification ministry spokesperson’s office said, informed the North that the South “will form a joint inspection team including authorities and business operators and make a visit to the North.”

The DPRK has not responded to the proposal.
