North Korean state television on Thursday announced the completion of a project to expand generating capacity at the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex, described in their report as the “nation’s biggest power source”.

Hundreds of military personnel and plant workers were pictured attending an opening ceremony led by O Su Yong, chief of the economic department of the DPRK’s Central Committee, Korea Central TV (KCTV) showed.

“To increase the production of electricity and to modernize the thermal power plant, our party has put importance on this construction,” a congratulatory statement from the Central Committee of the Worker’s Party of Korea said.
