U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will travel to North Korea on Sunday, the State Department said on Tuesday during a regular press briefing.

Pompeo will head to the North Korean capital to attempt to make progress on denuclearizing the DPRK, and is expected to meet with DPRK leader Kim Jong Un the same day.

The secretary of state will also travel to Japan, South Korea and China, from October 6-8, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert told assembled reporters.
