U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he has tried to befriend Kim Jong Un and that “maybe” someday he will succeed, in an unusual tweet sent on Sunday.

The President, who is currently in Vietnam for the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, also criticised the North Korean leader for personal insults against him.

“Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me “old,” when I would NEVER call him “short and fat?”,” the President tweeted from his personal account.

“Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend – and maybe someday that will happen!”
