News “Only one thing will work” on North Korea: TrumpU.S. President says diplomatic approaches on the DPRK have failed Leo Byrne October 7, 2017 Donald Trump Sr. at #FITN in Nashua, NH by Michael Vadon on 2015-04-20 16:24:21 U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday tweeted that “only one thing will work” to solve the North Korean nuclear issue, after saying numerous other approaches had failed. While Trump did not elaborate on the tweet, the message could be a further indicator the president is considering military options against the DPRK. “Presidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid… hasn’t worked, agreements violated before the ink was dry, makings fools of U.S. negotiators,” the president said on social media. “Sorry, but only one thing will work!” the president said on social media. But the tweets also did not mention Washington’s current strategy of attempting to increase pressure on North Korea, while also further isolating the DPRK from the international community. Trump’s tweet will do little to calm nerves following cryptic comments on Thursday when the President referred to a gathering of military advisers as “the calm before the storm.” Although Trump made no direct mention of North Korea, both the DPRK and Iran were on the agenda during the meeting with senior defense and military leaders. “The President commended the defense and military leaders for their efforts… pursuing a much more aggressive campaign in Afghanistan, defending against the North Korean threat, countering Iran, and assisting with relief efforts during this unprecedented hurricane season,” the White House said in a press release on the meeting. When reporters asked on the following day if the president could clarify the remarks, he replied by saying “you’ll find out.” Trump has taken a strong stance on North Korea in recent weeks following on from a speech at the UN General Assembly on September 19 when he said the U.S. would “totally destroy” the DPRK if it attacked the United States or its allies. The President even appeared to contradict his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s overtures of negotiating with the DPRK, tweeting last week that he was “wasting his time.” U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday tweeted that "only one thing will work" to solve the North Korean nuclear issue, after saying numerous other approaches had failed.
