Pyongyang completes new athletic island park in city center

Derelict for years, Mother's Island has now been turned into a sports hub

A long-neglected island known as “Omoni-som” (Mother’s Island) appears to have been repurposed to create a high-end sports hub known as the "Pyongyang Athletic Village", North Korean media on Tuesday announced.

The new athletic park sits in the center of Pyongyang, not far from other major tourist attractions including the infamous Ryugyong Hotel and within walking distance of the Pothonggang Hotel and Taedong Credit Bank.
