Malaysian authorities have used family DNA to confirm the identity of a recently deceased North Korean national as Kim Jong Nam, the estranged half-brother of Kim Jong Un, Malaysia's deputy prime minister said on Thursday.
While North Korea's Kuala Lumpur embassy has for weeks insisted the dead national, who carried a diplomatic passport, was named 'Kim Chol,' Malaysian authorities have "confirmed the identity of the body as Kim Jong Nam based on the sample obtained by his child," the AFP news agency quoted the deputy prime minister as saying.
