N.Korean band plays U.S. film soundtracks at New Year’s Day show

Performance suggests changing taste in Pyongyang, expert says

A North Korean orchestra performed the soundtracks of eight American-produced animated films at a performance to mark New Year’s Day, state broadcaster Korean Central Television (KCTV) showed in a video released on Tuesday.

The Samjiyon Band of the Mansudae Art Troupe performed a 65-minute show entitled “People’s Delight”, with musicians clad in Western-style pink dresses and red and black suits playing songs from world-famous animations for 12 minutes.
