Park Su Geun was a noted Korean 20th Century artist that grew up in Gangwon Province. From there he spent time working in both Pyongyang and Chuncheon - making journeys that would now be impossible due to the ideological reshaping of the land.
Park’s drawings, paintings and sketches were bucolic and rustic. They focused on the lives of ordinary people doing what mattered to them most. His work has been noted as being specifically Korean for focusing on the people of the peninsula: people that walked the paths around their homes, people that sold vegetables and grew crops. The art rarely, if ever, delved into more abstract or imaginary concepts such as nations or politics.
