S.Korea launches new frigate capable of striking North Korea

New advanced frigate has cruise missiles with a range of 1500km, could hit ground targets across DMZ

South Korea’s navy on Thursday launched its most advanced frigate, capable of launching ground strikes on targets in North Korea.

The 2,800-ton Daegu was launched from the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering shipyard on Geoje Island. The ship is part of the ROK Navy’s Future Frigate eXperimental (FFX) II program, which will see six to nine additional vessels built in the coming years, the Diplomat reports.
