The last few years in Pyongyang and many other North Korean cities can be described as a time of construction boom. In the early 1990s construction came to a near complete halt, but around 2007 the new buildings began to pop up in major North Korean cities. The scale of construction may exceed what North Korea has ever seen. It is also remarkable how fast the construction work is proceeding now.
This is a sign of economic improvement, but it is remarkable that in this case, like in many others, it is above all private money that has made the growth possible.
