Swiss parliamentarians want to cross inter-Korean border

Historically neutral Swiss have ties with both Koreas, history of DMZ crossing

Micheline Calmy-Rey was sure that she had made history.

Twelve years ago the member of the Swiss Federal Council had become the first member of a foreign government to walk through the Demilitarized Zone that has divided North and South Korea since 1953. Channeling another famous first, she said: “It is a small step for me. Hopefully, it will be a big step for peace on the Korean Peninsula.”
