Despite reported ban, N. Korea resumes cigarette imports

Imports of cigarettes from China in June double previous year, shipments from other countries still absent

North Korea’s reported ban on foreign cigarettes appears to have ended, with June imports from China doubling the 2014 quantity from the same month, Chinese trade figures show.

In December, South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported Kim Jong Un had personally banned the import of foreign made cigarettes, calling them “unpatriotic.”
