Imagery reveals renovations of Pyongyang airfields

North Korea developing airports around country for economic, military benefits

Recently updated imagery of North Korea on Google Earth revealed details of renovations at two airfields in Pyongyang: the Pyongyang-Sunan International Airport and the Kangdong Airfield.

The Pyongyang-Sunan International Airport is the largest airport in North Korea and primary airport serving Pyongyang. It serves as the main hub for the state-owned airline Air Koryo. The current construction project at Pyongyang-Sunan International Airport has been ongoing since at least December 2013 and includes the building of the new Terminal 2 as well as renovations to the airstrip itself.
