Son of North Korea sanctions violator avoids prison sentence

Gary Tsai enters guilty plea, avoids maximum sentence of five years in prison

Illinois resident Gary Tsai was handed a lenient supervised sentence on Friday stemming from a case involving his father and alleged support for a North Korean entity known to be one of the country's primary arms dealers.

Tsai’s sentence follows the 24-month sentence handed down to his father Alex Tsai on March 18 for “conspiring to violate U.S. laws preventing proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).”
