N. Korean military conducts island seizing drill

Drill on Yellow Sea coast reminiscent of 2010 Yeonpyeong bombardment

The North Korean military conducted a drill for attacking an island, the Korean Central News Agency reported Saturday. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended the drill with senior military and party officials.

Units of the Korean People’s Army IV (4th) Corps participated in a training drill in the Yellow Sea on the coast of South Hwanghae Province, focused on conducting artillery and missile attacks against an enemy island in response to hypothetical provocation. Though KCNA referred to the “seizing” of an island, no photographs or descriptions in the article indicated any actual invasion drill took place after the artillery assault.
