North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for improved ties with South Korea – including the possibility of a summit meeting with President Park Geun-hye – during a televised new years speech on Thursday.

Spending a significant portion of the speech laying out his interest in warmer inter-Korean relations, Kim said that he could be open to a summit meeting with the South Korean president.
