North Korea has seized on an admission of inaccuracies in the story of defector Shin Dong-hyuk, saying this unravels the UN Commission of Inquiry report on human rights in the country.
Referring to Shin as “Sin Tong Hyok,” a KCNA emphasized the role of Shin’s testimony before the COI in crafting the report, issued last spring, which has catalyzed a push toward human rights awareness culminating in a UN General Assembly vote in the fall to refer the North to the International Criminal Court.
