Defector sentenced to three years for espionage

Lengthy interrogation period prompts concern among N. Korea watchers

A female North Korean defector has been sentenced to three years for espionage after using drugs to beat a lie detector test, South Korean media reported Wednesday.

The 39-year-old woman was reportedly recruited by North Korea’s State Security Department to report on a defector conducting anti-North Korean regime activities in South Korea. She was said to have entered South Korea last January through China and Thailand posing as a defector.
