The South Korean government may ban a far left-wing party from contesting elections because of its pro-North Korean stance.

The Unified Progressive Party (UPP), which has six elected representatives in the National Assembly, has come under criticism in recent months as a senior member of the party, Lee Seok Ki and three of his colleagues were indicted on charges of plotting a rebellion against the South Korean government.
